Recipe submission guide
Thank you for your interest in using our services to bring your cosmetic, bath and body products to market.
This is a general guide, designed for artisan makers. If you need further advice, please do email info@cosmeticsafetyassessment.com
Please use a Word type document.
We prefer metric (grams) but feel free to use percentages if confident with them, but not a combination of weight and percentage.
CP/HP must be submitted by weight with a minimum 3% super fat for the base, no higher than 8% if you are including botanicals.
Numbers should be expressed to no more than 2 decimal places and we recommend that you purchase a set of digital jeweller's scales to for small ingredient quantities. Spoons, cups, pinches etc cannot be accepted.
Emulsions may need additional lab-based testing. To avoid the expense of retesting, please do not send samples to a lab without a review of your recipe first to ensure compliance and ascertain the correct tests. We can provide lab details with our review if required.
Single products, complex formulations, simple single ingredient products, all formulations are welcome.
In addition to the recipe, we will need the following
Fragrance oils IFRA 49 or above with EU cosmetic limits, allergens and SDS
Essential oils the common and INCI name. For some with restrictions, we will need further information.
Colour ingredients the full composition including CI (Colour Index) numbers.
Clays we will need the common and INCI name and the SDS.
Cosmetic bases for example, Melt and Pour soap base, the INCI percentage banding document. (Ingredients by percentage range, provided by the supplier)
Macerates, extracts and infusions the ratio of herb (etc) to oil/solvent and the type of oil/solvent.
Cosmetic function and area of use what the product is to be used for, where.
