Rice Bran Oil Refined
Refined rice bran oil is typically light yellow to golden in colour with a light, smooth texture that absorbs well into the skin without leaving a greasy residue. It has a very mild, neutral scent, making it suitable for a variety of cosmetic applications.
Rice bran oil is rich in a balanced mix of fatty acids, as well as other beneficial compounds like vitamin E, squalene, and oryzanol.
The typical fatty acid profile includes:
• Oleic Acid (Omega-9): ~38-42%
• Linoleic Acid (Omega-6): ~33-40%
• Palmitic Acid: ~15-20%
• Stearic Acid: ~2-3%
• Alpha-Linolenic Acid (ALA) (Omega-3): ~1-2%
The oil is also high in antioxidants, particularly oryzanol, which is known for its skin-protecting properties.
Rice bran oil is extracted from the bran, the outer layer of the rice grain (Oryza sativa), collected after the rice grains have been harvested and hulled. The bran is cold-pressed to extract the oil, retaining its beneficial nutrients like fatty acids and antioxidants. The oil undergoes refining to remove impurities, lighten the colour, and neutralise the scent.
Rice bran oil is deeply hydrating, making it ideal for dry, sensitive, and mature skin. The high antioxidant content, particularly oryzanol, can help protect the skin and improve radiance. It nourishes the scalp, helping to reduce dryness and flakiness and adds shine to hair, leaving it smooth and manageable. Its light texture and mild scent make rice bran oil a popular choice for massage oils, where it provides a non-greasy glide and leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth.
